Travelling to Canada

Visa application process

You likely need to apply for either a visitor visa (also known as a Temporary Resident Visa [TRV]) or an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter the country.

Note that lawful residents of the US also have additional proof of status documentation that must be provided upon entry.

Invitation letter

If you are applying for a TRV, we can provide a letter of invitation you can add as supplementary documentation. Please reach out to us with the following details:

  • Full name (as it appears on your passport)

  • Address (matching the address you will use in the visa application form)

  • Institution

Visa processing times

Visa processing times for Canada are lengthy. Processing times differ depending on country - you can check the estimating processing times in the link below. Official estimates can extend upwards of 5 months. These should be taken as highly conservative estimates and does not include lead times to schedule appointments.
